1) What is a Bitten Slate®?

A Bitten Slate® is the premier award for bit parts in the film industry. It looks pretty much like our logo does. (See that beautiful illustration at the top of this page? Voilà!)

2) Why is the Bitten Slate® the "premier" award for bit parts in film?

We are the top award for bit parts in film, and that, by definition, makes us the “premier” one! We are also the one and only such award, and that, again, makes us the "premier" one. Indeed, having cared enough to be the first, well that, too, makes us the "premier" such award. Besides — and please pardon our French — it just so happens that in French the word “premier” means "first", and we are that indeed!

3) How did the idea for the Bitten Slate® come to be?

Once upon a time, there was a film lover watching a film, and nearly every time a bit part came on screen, it would steal the scene. Utterly delighted, the film lover wondered, 'Why on earth didn't that actor get an Oscar® for that role? And that other actor? And that other actor, too? And that one and that one and that one? All those actors not only chewed up the scenery, they regurgitated it better than it was before!" Promptly realizing it was film and not theater, the film lover amended the latter thought to, "All those actors bit a chunk off the clapperboard!", doing away with the regurgitation part, because that's just gross (no offense to cows). Appalled and dismayed at there being no Academy Awards™ for bit parts, said film lover decided to right this terrible wrong. But since calling an award the Bitten Clapperboard would have been a mouthful (and might have even sounded a bit stinky on occasion), the Bitten Slate® was born.
